Pulau Langkawi

What a lovely place.  Langkawi Island was not on my itinerary until SK at the Tree-in-Lodge in Singapore persuaded me that I could not leave Malaysia without visiting the island.  I am so glad he did.  It has beautiful mountains, jungle and lovely beaches – no wonder it is the pearl of Malaysia’s tourism.  Me and my bike came by ferry from George Town.  It’s a fair distance as the super-fast ferry took 3 hours at, I guess, more than 30nm per hour.  I stayed in a good backpacker lodge called The Honey Badger Hut.  It about 25 km out of the main town but a perfect location as it is only a short walk from the best beach on the island and close to shops and restaurants.

I rented a scooter and had a glorious day exploring the island.  The main attractions are a walk to the Seven Wells Waterfall and a ride up to the second highest peak in a cool cable car system.  At the top they have a suspended pedestrian bridge angled across a valley where the views are just stunning.

  1. Hi Elred – good to share the ferry with you from Georgetown to Langkawi – and to learn that your handmade bike came from a town in Somerset, UK, 8 miles from my home! Had a great time in Koh Lipe, then Koh Lanta and now in Phuket. Ride safe and enjoy.
