Ii did not know that Phuket was recognised by UNESCO as ‘Thailand City of Gastronomy 2017’ but when I found out, I booked a food tour of the Old Town immediately. The website said that the tour would be limited to 6 people with a minimum of 2 people. I booked and held thumbs that someone else would have booked as well. As it turned out I was the only person on the tour and so I had a personal guided tour lasting 6 hours. My tour guide was a delightful local lady called
Suttira Juanjenkit (Official name)
Zuanxin (Family name)
Pema (Tour guide name)
Interesting that all of her names mean “Big-hearted” and so she is.
Here we are in a Chinese Temple where we went to pay our respects to the Goddess of Compassion before we started the tour. It was a most amazing experience having Pema to myself for the day. We spoke about religion, spirituality, history, art, anthropology, philosophy, geography and of course food. The tour led us through, in and around the streets and backstreets of the Old Town. I learned about Pema’s childhood and the memories of her uncles, so the day was much more fulfilling than I expected or could have imagined. Thank you Pema for sharing!
But, of course, it was all about the food. Pema led me to places and introduced me to people, restaurants and food that I would not have found or enjoyed by myself and it was all delicious. Here is what we had, in the order we ate – there was no room for supper! We did take long walks between courses to settle the digestion
Thanks again for the updates and the food looks awesome Keep enjoying!!!!
